A contractor who travelled to McDonald’s for an early morning breakfast was caught when staff parked him up – and then reported him to Police.
29-year-old Daniel Fitzsimmons pleaded guilty to drink driving when he appeared at the Isle of Wight Magistrates Court on Friday.
Fitzsimmons, who is currently staying at Abingdon Lodge Hotel in Ryde but hails from Scotland, visited McDonald’s drive-thru in Ryde early on 2nd August. Staff saw the father-of-3 drinking vodka so proceeded to park him up in Bay 1.
By chance, Police happened to be in the adjoining car park so were flagged down by concerned staff members.
Fitzsimmons was breathalysed and arrested, later providing an evidential reading of 46 – just over the legal limit of 35.
Defending, Barry Arnett told the court that his client didn’t think that he was over the limit when he drove to McDonald’s. Daniel had been drinking the night before with work colleagues.
Taking into account a previous conviction for failing to provide in 2018, Magistrates handed Daniel Fitzsimmons a 36-month driving ban with a fine of £500, costs of £85 and a £50 surcharge.

In Saudi Arabia you get 360 lashes in public, and year in prison, deported for life if you are an overner for just a slight whiff of alcohol on your breath.
We are far to lenient in this country.
