John Holdoway is preparing to swim 50 lengths of a West Wight pool in memory of his father-in-law, who died aged 101.
John will take to the water at West Wight Sports and Community Centre in Freshwater on Friday 9th October to raise money for Mountbatten Isle of Wight.
The fundraising challenge is being held in memory of John’s father-in-law, who recently died at the age of 101 after being cared for by staff at Mountbatten.
John says he was inspired to raise money for the Island charity after seeing first-hand the dedication and kindness of those who cared for his father-in-law day and night.
He will begin his 50-length swim at 15:00, with a fundraising table set up at the sports centre where donations can be made and items purchased in support of the challenge.
All the money raised will go directly to Mountbatten Isle of Wight, helping the charity support people affected by death, dying and bereavement.
Explaining why he is taking on the challenge, John said:
“The staff are dedicated, kind and hard-working, and they lovingly took care of him night and day.
