The Wight Eagles 1st home friendly game at their new ground at Brighstone saw them get off to a good start with a 10-0 drubbing of mainland side Alton Panthers.
All the girls from last year have signed back on and to fight and hopefully build on that amazing 3rd place finish last season. New signings Isla Ash and Kayla Brien debuted for the club and made an instant impact for the Eagles and strengthened the squad.
The Eagles were missing manager Dan Verstraeten for this fixture, but they were guided by assistant manager Scott Ronan. The girls went straight out, putting Alton on the back foot and instantly made progress, getting in behind the defence to score quickly. The girls were very comfortable and took what they learned in training and rapidly put it into the match; they were totally in control of the game, and Alton never troubled Eloise in goal.
Alton had as few as 4 chances to beat Eloise and were denied every time. Wight Eagles were 4 up at halftime. The girls were flying high in confidence and went out in the 2nd half to carry on what they had started and complete a successful day for the Wight Eagles with debut goals from Isla and a brace from Kayla. Also getting on the scoresheet was Lyla with a brace, Imogen with a hat-trick, 1 from Mesha and an own goal.

After the game, Wight Eagles assistant manager Scott Ronan said:
“The girls have worked hard in training this week on where they should be on and off the ball. Today really showed how much they have listened in training, and they were outstanding from kick-off right till the end. We couldn’t ask any more of them. We are all really proud.
“We also want to congratulate the two new girls that have come in and really settled in with our group. They’re going to make us even stronger.”
