A large stone trough, purchased in memory of a local historian, has been stolen from a cemetery in Cowes.
The trough was taken from outside of the East Chapel at Northwood Cemetery at some point overnight from Friday into Saturday.
It had been purchased with a legacy from the late Cowes Historian Charlie Taylor as a memorial to him, by the Friends of Northwood Cemetery.
Being full of soil and planted with flowers, the trough is said to be very heavy and therefore would have needed at least 2 very strong people to lift it and a pick-up truck or small lorry to take it away.
The Friends of Northwood Cemetery Trustee Committee have said:
“It is sickening to think that there are people about who could do such a thing. It has of course been reported to the police and any help to trace the perpetrators will be much appreciated”.

To the less than popular thief……..you have upset many friends of Charlie Taylor, the very popular Cowes Historian, by stealing his ‘memorial planter’…………why not just leave it somewhere where it can be found, in order that it is returned to its rightful place…….clear your concience.
