East Cowes Vics’ forward Jared Cousins suffered a suspected broken ankle after half-an-hour of matchplay between East Cowes Vics and Totton & Eling yesterday evening (Tuesday).
The game at Beatrice Avenue kicked off at 20:20 – over 30 minutes after the scheduled time – due to a medical episode on board the Wightlink ferry transporting the Totton and Eling team. There was a further delay because the away side had forgotten to pack their socks but fortunately some spare pairs were found.
The game itself was an even and closely contested affair. However, in the 32nd minute, Jared Cousins fell while contesting the ball close to the Totton and Eling byline.
It soon became apparent that Jared had been seriously injured and an ambulance was called. The Vics forward could not be moved without appropriate medical supervision, and the game was abandoned while he was being treated by ambulance paramedics on the edge of the pitch.
Vics next face Andover Town in Wessex Division 1 at Beatrice Avenue on Saturday 3rd September.
