Following Southern Water’s recent release of wastewater into the Solent, Isle of Wight MP Bob Seely has asked the company to explain what action they are taking to reduce the need for this to happen again.
In a letter to the Chief Executive Officer of Southern Water – Ian McAulay – Mr Seely asked the company to explain what action it was taking to reduce the need for further such releases of contaminated water around the Isle of Wight.
Mr Seely also asked Southern Water for a plan of action to tell Islanders how the Solent will be sewage free in future years.
Bob said:
“I am keen to ensure that these incidents of wastewater being released into the Solent do not become commonplace. We need to look after the environment around us and make sure swimmers, sailors and fish have decent water.
“I have asked Southern Water for assurances that this was a one-off incident.”
Bob is awaiting a response from Southern Water.
I would be interested in Southern Waters Reply to Mr Seely. We have had at least two major projects on the island recently by Southern Water, one in Ryde and another in Shanklin.
Both of which caused considerable disruption for extended periods. These projects concerned storm water storage to help prevent this very issue.
Have Southern Water been using the same Engineering Consultants that the IoW Council used for FB6?!
i doubt the sewage works have been able to cope with the increased amount of shite, from the increased numbers of people living on this island, due to the endless building of more pointless developments for non islanders to live in.
