Another pair of tiny kittens have been found abandoned on the Isle of Wight, and taken into the care of Friends of the Animals, just weeks after 2 newborn kittens were dumped in a box.
The approximately 4-week-old kittens were discovered huddled together beneath a hedge off Middle Road on Thursday, after a couple heard tiny meows coming from the undergrowth.
The pair were cold when they were found and it is feared they would not have survived much longer had their cries not been heard.
Friends of the Animals was contacted about the discovery yesterday (Friday), with the charity arranging for the kittens to be examined by The People’s Vet.
The tabby kitten was found to be underweight and dehydrated and required fluids to be administered beneath its skin, although neither kitten was found to have fleas.
The youngsters have now been placed in the care of an experienced fosterer, where it is hoped they will continue to recover and thrive.
Friends of the Animals says there was no sign of a mother cat or any other kittens in the area. Both kittens are friendly and comfortable around people, leading the charity to believe they are domestic rather than feral.
The latest discovery comes less than 3 weeks after Island Echo reported that another pair of tiny kittens had been found abandoned in a box on the Cowes-Newport cycle track.
Those kittens, named Scooter and Vespa, were thought to be just days old and required hand-rearing after being found suffering from fleas, with one also experiencing problems with its eye.
Helen Luff, from Friends of the Animals, has said:
“It’s so sad that people can do this and not contact a rescue or a vet for help.
“Had these kittens not been found they would definitely not be alive today.
“Again we ask for information and stress the importance of spaying and neutering. This is just one of the things we help towards.”
