Ryde Kebab House will continue to trade but with stricter licencing conditions following a recent meeting of the Isle of Wight Council’s licensing sub-committee.
Concerns had been raised by Police that a number of violent incidents had occurred at the takeaway on High Street, Ryde, some of which are alleged to have involved staff assaulting customers. This led to Hampshire Constabulary requesting that the takeaway’s licence be revoked.
The kebab house had also been reported to be staying open later than their licence allows.
A meeting of the local authority’s licencing sub-committee on Friday decided not to revoke Ryde Kebab House’s licence, but instead implement a number of changes…
Under their modified licence, the takeaway must ensure that a licenced security guard is present at the premises after 23:00 at night. In addition, CCTV cameras must be on at all times when the shop is open for business – the footage must be correctly timestamped and show the entranceway.
Premises Licence Holder, Mr Seyit Cal, has said:
“My family and I are very pleased that the Councillors hearing today’s Application carefully considered the evidence presented to them regarding the very challenging circumstances in which late night businesses operate.
“We fully accept and respect the decision of the Committee to slightly modify the existing conditions of our Licence, in order to clarify the CCTV requirements and to make provision for a member of door staff after 11pm.

I think we can assume no members of that committee live near Ryde High Street then.
I stopped using the place a year ago, one member of staff was very rude to me over the phone. The next day I went around there wanting questions answered about their behaviour, was given a torrent of abuse and followed out to my car. I had been using the place for years and they knew me. Shocking behaviour.
Wouldn’t set foot in the place anyhow, always looks manky.

If we do not wish our Island to mirror the mainland, perhaps we should vote with our feet. Whilst Mc D’s may not be top quality, at least it has strict hygiene, staff management, and camera’s to protect customers and staff. THINK then act accordingly.
These joints are undesirable, unhealthy places for any town, some areas on the mainland do some very nasty business apart from selling bad food.
