Ben Johnson of the Wightlink Wight Mountain Cycle Race Team travelled to the south of France last weekend to take part in the biggest mountain bike event in Europe.
Taking place over 4 days from 9th-13th October, numerous races are held with the Isle of Wight’s Ben tackling 2 of them.
The first race Ben took part in was the ROC marathon – a 52-mile loop with over 2,300 metres of climbing and descending on technical trails, deemed to be one of the hardest mountain bike races in Europe.
A total of 2,500 riders took part in the marathon, setting off in waves of 500. Ben was in the 3rd wave and completed the course in 5hrs 37mins. He finished 531st out of 2,500.
On Sunday, Ben raced the ROC 55km over similar terrain with 1,300 metres of climbing. Once again he started in the 3rd wave and set a time of 3hrs 14 mins. He crossed the line in 818th place out of 3,000 riders.
