One of the Island’s most prolific offenders was released from prison just 6 days into a 4-month sentence, going on to commit further offences within just 48 hours, Island Echo can exclusively reveal.
Timothy Young, 57, of no fixed abode, admitted 4 counts of theft and 4 breaches of a criminal behaviour order when he appeared at the Isle of Wight Magistrates earlier today (Friday).
Prosecutors told the court that on 4 occasions, between 22nd October and 5th November, Young entered Tesco Express in Newport and stole goods totalling £169.25. The items stolen included chocolate and meat.
In committing the offences, Young – who has just shy of 100 offences on his record – was in breach of a criminal behaviour order that banned him from concealing items in a bag.
In a bizarre turn of events, the court heard how Young was handed a 4-month prison sentence on 14th October after he was convicted of yet more dishonesty offences, only to be released – for reasons unknown – just 6 days later.
The revelation comes amid a national crisis where prisoners – often serious offenders – have been released by mistake, with some going on to commit further offences, just like Young did.
Defending, Oscar Vincent said that Young was ‘surprised he was being released’. He also added that upon his ‘surprise’ release, Young was homeless and without food and money due to issues with his benefits.
After some deliberations, Magistrates handed Timothy Young another 4-month prison sentence.

but you release a man just like that unable to make any plans, homeless, not one bit of support, when you get released from prison you have to go see probation on that first day, now I don’t know if he reported in or not but if he did what did probation make of it,
I guess he was on a prescription for his drug addiction and his mental health lol . You just can’t get any of that just like that so basically he’s in a no win situation being released with 40 pound
even if he said to the screw or prison officer in the reception that he never knew that he was getting out they would still let him out because when the officer has a notification for release he’s just letting him out because the paper says so so he’s not i care he has done it 1000s of time befor so what does he care.
I just wonder what he is ment to do with no one to go to, no prescription no money and having to walk around in the rain all day.

The most secure part of the prison is the main gate where they release people they have all their paperwork and all their court papers,

I was in prison in 1990 before toilets and running water, we had no TVs as we had in electric in the cell, it was 23hour bang up every day with a book,

in in a community you know who to avoid who’s who and what’s going on so you know the ones to watch the ones who have problems with other people who not to mix because violence will occur and these prison officers brought in from other prisons do not know how how the wing works and it makes it very dangerous prison now is the worst I’ve ever seen it
