Police on the Isle of Wight have been made aware about a series of incidents involving vehicles being ransacked and items stolen overnight.
Car owners in Arreton and Godshill awoke this morning (Monday) to discover that their vehicles had been broken into or accessed. Each vehicle had been ransacked and in some cases a number of items stolen.
Unwanted objects found by the opportunist(s), such as empty wallets, were soon located by their rightful owners in nearby gardens and hedgerows.
For one victim, a laptop, bank cards and passports were all stolen from 2 cars parked outside their family home.
Island Echo is told that least 4 cars in the village of Arreton were targeted, alongside at least another 4 in Godshill – roads including Moor Close and School Crescent.
A man from nearby Whitwell was alerted to the discovery of his credit cards scattered along Brading High Street this morning, suggesting that other villages on the Island were also hit.
Islanders should ensure their vehicles are secured at all times and valuable items are not left unattended.

Council will be turning street lights off next, that will help.
Who in their right mind keeps Wallets,/ Passports/ laptops / Bank cards in their car parked outside overnight ???
Because of thieves and lowlifes, it is not safe to leave things in your car, but you SHOULD be able to.
If these low lives went out & worked instead of taking items & trashing cars they would be better off, I believe once they start this type of crime it’s with them for live & becomes the norm.
If caught the punishment should be severe!
exactly – only those that are careless, will do this.
It is even worth opening the glove compartment when the vehicle is parked up, so that thieves can see there is nothing in it – saves them breaking the window to find out and you having the inconvenience of getting it fixed.
They are probably on the happy backy or some thing they would imagine things in glove box anyway, these people are scum.
If they had anything worth having stolen they would go ape, hope they get the same treatment!
Is Nothing sacred any longer? even the IOW is affected by scum.
Likely not REAL Islanders, our Nans cat gave birth in her chicken coop, still had kittens not chicks.
These feral scums are everywhere, they have no morals.
Just because you think the IoW is safe, Dont be lulled into a false sense of security .. Never leave wallets laptops or anything of any value in your car unattended.
That’s too true if you have anything those scum want it!
