Staplers Road in Newport will be closed overnight on Friday, Saturday and Sunday to enable resurfacing works to take place.
Island Roads have advised that the busy main route into Newport will be closed between Cross Lane and Mayfield Drive – a total distance of 479 metres – between the hours of 18:00 and 06:00 each night.
The closure is to allow contractors to reinstate the carriageway on behalf of Southern Water following water main replacement work in the area earlier this year.
Motorists will be diverted via Fairlee Road or Blackwater Road in both directions. By the letter of the official traffic notice, there will be no access to the top of Furrlongs.
The works are thought to be weather dependent.
UPDATE FRIDAY @ 13:45 – Staplers Road closure has now been postponed due to the weather forecast over the next couple of nights.
A spokesperson for Island Roads has said:
“Due to the forecast weather for the next two days, SW [Southern Water] have suspended the planned carriageway resurfacing works on Staplers Road for tonight / tomorrow.
“They will be re-arranged for possibly two weeks time.”

So when staplers road as been resurfaced will it then be closed over night again so a certain utility firms can rip it all up again and make it just as bad as it was because this seems to be the norm on the island?
How long will it be before they dig it up again!!!!
