Newport co-manager Stewart Shepherd has resigned from his role at the football club.
In a statement put out on Facebook on Saturday evening (20th August), Stewart said:
“Last week, I decided to step down from my role at Newport IW Football Club. I would like to thank everyone involved at the club for all your help and support over the years I have been involved. I have had some good times at the club where I have managed the A side through to the first team. Good luck in the future to all the players and management.”
Stewart has co-managed Newport Football Club with Steve Brougham since the resignation of Andy Sampson in November 2020. It is believed he will play a role in the management of Pan Sports. 2 of his sons – Sam and Robbie – both play for Pan.
Newport narrowly missed out on promotion to the Wessex Premier last season when they were beaten in the play off final by Laverstock & Ford. This Saturday, the Port were knocked out of the FA Cup at the preliminary round stage by AFC Stoneham.
