A new MC Federation affiliated motocross practice track has opened on the Isle of Wight.
The track, off Military Road at Brighstone, is home to a new local motocross club called MotoxIOW.
The site boasts 2 tracks; a smaller one aimed at beginners and small children and a larger track for intermediate to advanced riders.
MotoxIOW held their opening day on Saturday (4th July) and had a total of 34 riders of all ages attend, ranging from a 6-year-old girl to an 82-year-old ex-world champion.
The day was well received by all who attended, including a few curious passers-by. The feedback received by organisers has been positive with many commenting on the friendly atmosphere and good organisation of the event.
The club hopes to offer a welcoming and safe environment for riders of all ages and abilities to enjoy the exhilaration of motocross. It offers youngsters the chance to get active outdoors in a safe, designated area, reducing the likelihood of illegally riding bikes.
MotoxIOW will be hosting practice track days on alternate Saturdays for a maximum of 28 weeks of the year. Each track day runs from 10:00 until 16:30 and riders must pre-book tickets via MotoxIOW website, www.motoxiow.co.uk.
Members of the Brighstone and Mottistone community are invited to a meeting at the track on Saturday 11th July 2020 at 16:00.
I truly hope this track stays for the sake of island MX. I can understand some will find it noisy but clubs like this stop kids riding illegally on beauty spots around the island. I hope the locals welcome this with open arms. I myself am looking forward to riding this track next time.
Why would they welcome it with open arms? The arrogance of some people. How many of your club members actually live in Brighstone? I guess not many. Why cannot you go and play in your own back yard?

Excellent give them something to moan about. I was pointed at for riding up a road on my motorcycle. Only going to work and I live here.

Inbred iowter: I live in Brighstone and I’m not a snob! I think it’s fantastic. There will, obviously, be complaints from the nimbys but I didn’t hear them this weekend. Personally I love hearing them and the road bikes on a lovely sunny day, not nearly as annoying as the nimby pensioners (generally speaking), who are constantly complaining about the motorcycle noise along Military Road but think nothing of starting up their strimmers, mowers and hedgetrimmers before 9am at the weekend, even though they’re at home all week! Far more intrusive than motorcycle noise, which, let’s face it if they’re all speeding, must be here and gone in a few seconds, unlike noisy garden equipment for an hour at 8:30am on a Sunday morning!
It doesn’t look as if the sound of this MX track is going to come and go in a few seconds! Six and a half hours of drone, drone, drone, drone, drone, drone, drone, drone,…….. .
I’m glad I don’t live near it. One motorbike behind my garden doing just that is enough but perhaps I’ll be saved and he’ll join MotoxIOW! :-))
Giggle, you wish RTB! I’m sure it must be annoying if it’s right behind your house and if you’re not into bikes but no less annoying for others when you have to listen to strimmers, mowers, music, etc. on a beautiful weekend day! We all must learn more tolerance toward each other. I live in Brighstone but I didn’t hear any noise from the motorX bikes this weekend. There was, however, lots of noise pollution from Brighstone gardeners, house-extentioners, farm vehicles, an Incredibly loud vibrating noise this morning which went through our very bones! Live and let live, I say.
It won’t last, I can hear the pens scribbling signatures on the petitions now.
I think it is a great asset and great to see. I was fortunate to have created with my team at the time the World Motocross championship trophies for the Gore Basin Events.
It was a well organised event and great for the island until it was shut down by some crackpots.
I hope this new facility continues for all to enjoy.
