Following the news that Thomas Cook has ceased trading and been placed into compulsory liquidation, Isle of Wight MP Bob Seely is keen to ensure that all Island passengers and staff affected know where to seek support.
More than 150,000 Thomas Cook customers currently abroad are affected by the news, along with staff from the company, some of these based on the Isle of Wight.
Bob said:
“This is sad news for Thomas Cook passengers and staff and my thoughts are with all those who are affected.
“The Secretary of State for Transport, Grant Shapps has assured me that the Government and UK Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) is working together to ensure the safe return of customers who are currently abroad.
“I strongly advise anyone who is on holiday, or has a holiday booked with Thomas Cook, to follow the guidance given by the CAA here https://thomascook.caa.co.uk/.
“After taking this advice, if any of my constituents experience any further issues I would urge them to contact me with details.”
The Secretary of State has confirmed that the CAA will be bringing home all those currently abroad and due to return to the UK without charge – not just those whose trips are covered by the Air Travel Organiser’s Licence (ATOL) scheme.
Affected Thomas Cook staff can seek support from the Government’s Jobcentre Plus Rapid Response Service. Staff with specific employment questions (including pensions) should visit https://thomascook.caa.co.uk/ or https://www.ppf.co.uk/.
A 24-hour helpline has also been set up for those affected. Thomas Cook customers should call 0300 303 2800 from the UK and Ireland and +44 1753 330 330 from overseas.

Feel so sad for the wonderful staff at the Newport shop they are always so friendly and helpful. Will be sorely missed
Fat cat CEOs getting multi million pound bonuses and banks caused this crash, rampant capitalism at its finest.
Just in case it might help some, I was overseas when Monarch went to the wall and, as in this case, the CAA made arrangements to get us repatriated. As advised at the time, I kept an eye on the official website and did exactly as advised. The net result was that we got home with the very greatest of ease and peace of mind. I hope that it works just as well for all concerned this time.
