Work to modernise and expand Morrisons supermarket in Lake is well underway.
Plans to develop the site off Newport Road were lodged with the Isle of Wight Council at the very end of 2017. Now, 9 months later, work to transform the tired store and bring it into the 21st century is progressing well.
Shoppers are facing disruption throughout the works with significantly less parking available, however, it will all be worth it when the store is re-launched in 2019 with a new entrance lobby, new café and new washroom facilities, as well as more space in which to shop.
The store remains open during the works.
75 new jobs will be created by the expansion of the store.
A spokesperson for Morrsions has said:
“We’re going to be doubling the size of our store and significantly increasing our product range, across all Market Street fresh counters and all shop floor departments, to offer our customers more choice.
“We’ve listened to our customers and we’re designing the store so that it’ll be a much easier layout and more pleasant shopping experience for our customers. We’re also introducing new fixtures and fittings throughout”.
