Morrisons, the UK’s fourth largest supermarket chain, has submitted a planning application to the Isle of Wight Council for the expansion of it’s Lake store near Sandown.

Permission is being sought for the erection of a front and side extension to the existing foodstore, reconfiguration of car parking facilities with the loss of 5 spaces and the development of new access roads with associated landscaping.

If approved, the store will grow by 1,909 square metres and will lead to 75 new jobs being created – 18 full time and 57 part time. The car park will remain fairly small with 249 car parking spaces, 16 disability spaces and 13 parent and child bays.

Customers can expect a new entrance lobby, new café, new washroom facilities and staff will receive a new staff canteen area at ground floor level.

Permission was granted for a previous expansion plan back in 2013, but Morrisons decided not to push ahead with the development and the planning permission has now lapsed. The store’s build was originally approved in 1990.
