The awards recognised IPL’s development of a ground-breaking product – the hotspot locator – an adaptable hand-held device that enables the user to quickly detect, identify and grade radioactivity. Developed using expertise gained in the aftermath of the Chernobyl and Fukushima disasters, the product is in use in nuclear decontamination and clean-up projects around the world.

In awarding Innovative Physics Ltd the Small Company of the Year Award, judges said they recognised IPL’s sound business plan and the development of a product that met the market’s needs and enabled the company to compete successfully with much larger organisations.

Judges said:

“Operating in the nuclear, medical, and homeland security industries, Innovative Physics evolves current technologies to provide novel solutions to radiological obstacles for the benefit of customers and society. The team, consisting of engineers, physicists and technicians devote themselves to the development of new approaches to radiological detection.”

Also mentioned during the ceremony was innovation made in the world of animatronic dinosaurs with the displays at Blackgang Chine held up as an example of this.

“We were absolutely delighted to see our innovation and success once again acknowledged with another industry award.

“And with the mentions of Blackgang Chine during the ceremony it really does seem that work on the Isle of Wight is gaining national attention and that the Island itself is being seen as a great centre of engineering excellence.”

Innovative Physics has also been shortlisted for the Most Innovative Business Idea (tech) at the forthcoming British Business Awards 2019 to be held in London on 30th October.
