The Port and Vics both lost on their travels against North Hampshire sides in the Hampshire Senior Cup on Tuesday evening (23rd August).
The Port travelled to Petersfield without several senior players: Scott Jones, George Colson, Joe Hancock, and Jordan Browne. This gave the opportunity for FA Cup teenage scoring sensation Finn Smith to make his 1st full appearance for the County Town club.
An even 1st half finished goalless despite Connor Kelly hitting the crossbar in the 14th minute and Joe Craig shooting inches over the goal 2 minutes before the half time break.
In the 2nd half, the Rams took the lead through a Will Essai penalty. Christian Bennett then added a 2nd for the home side 8 minutes into injury time after Port keeper Leon Pitman had ventured upfield.
Full Time: Petersfield Town 2-0 Newport IW
Newport IW: Pitman, Younie, Lamb, Reynolds, Sampson, Barron, Kelly, Smith, Wetherick, Craig, Butcher
The game between Tadley Calleva and East Cowes Vics kicked off at the ridiculously late time of 20:30 due to travel delays for the Island side.
Vics trailed 2-0 at half time after Brett Denham netted twice for Tadley.
A 73rd minute goal from Alfie Saunders saw the home side take a 3-goal lead before Toby Snow and Charlie Marsek reduced the deficit to 3-2. However, Tadley’s Ben Wright ended Vics’ chances of taking anything from the encounter when he curled the ball past Ben Woodford to restore the mainland side’s 2-goal advantage.
Full time: Tadley Calleva 4-2 East Cowes Vics
East Cowes Vics: B. Woodford, Walsh, K. Woodford, Newbold (c), Berry, Lyon, Kettell, Chapman. Cant, Snow, Marsek Subs: Cousins, Lacey
