The Diabetes Group IOW is hosting a guest speaker from the Hampshire and Isle of Wight Diabetic Eye Screening Programme on Tuesday 8th October, giving people with diabetes the chance to find out more about eye care to ensure the future health of their eyes.
The Hampshire and Isle of Wight Diabetic Eye Screening Programme provides eye screening as part of a national initiative for people with diabetes on the Island and further afield.
One of their representatives, Hannah Beharrel, a qualified diabetic retinopathy screener and image grader, will share her expert knowledge on eyecare, including information about Diabetic Retinopathy. This is a diabetes complication affecting the small blood vessels and capillaries of the retina and can progress without any symptoms, resulting in the patient needing urgent treatment.

“We are delighted to be hosting Hannah from the screening service at our October event where she will present information about how people with diabetes can take good care of their eye health. She will be sharing information about Diabetic Retinopathy which is the most common cause of sight loss in working age people. We encourage anyone interested in diabetic eyecare to come along and find out more about this condition and other eyecare complications.”
