A public consultation on plans to close All Saints’ Primary School in Freshwater is now underway.

The Isle of Wight Council has published a public notice signalling the start of a 5-week consultation on proposals to close the school from 31st August 2020.

The closure is being proposed due to a significant decline in pupil numbers at the school and significant surplus schools places within the West Wight area.

Parental preference for All Saints’ CE Primary School has significantly reduced over the past 5 years with only 12 reception year pupils starting in September 2019. The financial impact of reducing numbers also means the school has been faced with a substantial deficit budget since the beginning of the 2019 financial year.

People have until 29th November 2019 to have their say and more information, including a copy of the statutory notice, is available to view at

A further report is due to be brought to Cabinet in January 2020 that will seek a final decision on the outcome of the statutory consultation.  In the event that a decision is taken to close All Saints’ from 31 August 2020, the local authority will fully support parents to ensure that all current pupils are provided with a suitable alternative school place.

The report will also update Cabinet on the outcome of a separate consultation being undertaken by the Federation of the Church Schools of Shalfleet and Yarmouth on its proposal to relocate Yarmouth Primary School to the All Saints’ site.
