Human remains that were discovered in Freshwater Bay at the tail end of last year are that of a woman, but Police are yet to establish the identify of the deceased.
As previously reported by Island Echo, a dog walker made the gruesome discovery of a human forearm and hand whilst enjoying a stroll along the beach on the morning of 28th December. The remains, made up of bone and some heavily decomposed tissue, were handed to Freshwater Independent Lifeboat.
Hampshire Constabulary have now been able to conclude that the remains are female, but they have been unable to establish the identify of the deceased. It is still thought the remains could be from a disturbed sea burial.
There is at least 1 missing person case in the area where a body has yet to be discovered.
