HMS Queen Elizabeth will set sail from Portsmouth later this morning (Friday) to conduct the first UK trials with the brand new F-35 fighter jet.
It has been confirmed that the carrier will be conducting sea trials with the country’s new F35 fighter jets. Although testing has taken place in the US, it will be the first time the fighters have carried out trial runs with HMS Queen Elizabeth in UK waters.
The aircraft carrier will work with 207 Sqn, a joint Royal Navy/RAF Lightning Force training squadron based at RAF Marham.
The trials were set to begin on Tuesday, but a planned sailing from Portsmouth Naval Base was cancelled.
