Delays of up to 30 minutes are being reported by drivers heading between Lake and Sandown this afternoon (Monday).
Issues are also being caused to local bus services, with routes 2, 3, and 8 all suffering delays of up to 20 minutes according to operator Southern Vectis, which has blamed the long queues on 2-way temporary traffic lights on the Fairway.
Traffic towards Sandown from Shanklin is currently queued along Sandown Road as far as Skew Bridge, and motorists heading towards Lake from Sandown queued as far as the bottom of Sandown High Street.

Looks like the council’s logics have failed them again and decided to dig up half the Island’s roads just as the grockels are swarming over here.
What stupid idiot decided to do work in Lake when they know there is roads works further up the road? I’ve seen 2 ambulances trying to get though causing delays to them, does it need someone to die before they get their act together?
Any other company and the works manager would be sacked for stupidity
Finally there could be an end to motorists’ frustration of seeing newly resurfaced roads being dug up soon afterwards because roadworks have not been co-ordinated by utility firms.
Staffordshire County Council, wants to bring in a licensing scheme which would see it hand out highway permits to utility companies needing to dig up roads.
If approved, it would see utility providers encouraged by the council to co-ordinate their works between them in a bid to stop roads continually being being dug up.
……
perhaps the island council should take note
I agree with this, the number of times I have seen this sort of thing happen in Wales within a day or two of the roads being resurfaced, then the Utilities companies digging the roads straight back up, and then feather and tar the road surface rather than replace the road properly to save a few thousand on repair works.
As usual, Sandown/lake have become a disaster zone due to stupid roadworks.
Why do they ALWAYS dig up roads in and out of Sandown at the same time?
And who can forget the almost 12 month roadworks at Morton a couple of years ago. Only resolved when residents decided to hold a birthday party for them.
Now we have the Wight Cable mafia digging us up. Given preference over residents wishes. This company has turned it into a war zone. Unbelievable useless planning and corruption.
