Islanders are being invited to give their views on how the Isle of Wight Council should spend its money next year.
The council has launched its budget consultation today (Tuesday 5th November) — and residents, businesses, the voluntary sector and town and parish councils are being encouraged to have their say on spending and service priorities for 2020/21.
Councillor Stuart Hutchinson, deputy leader and Cabinet member for resources, said:
“The input of Islanders is valuable to the shaping of our spending and service priorities for the year ahead.
“We welcome views from all contributors as we develop an innovative and workable budget — and one which will allow us to continue to provide sustainable services in the future, within a stable financial environment.”
Council leader Councillor Dave Stewart added:
“My experience so far is that when called upon people on the Island will step forward with thoughts and ideas and I encourage everyone to give us their support.
“We have already been undertaking a thorough analysis of all our spending as part of the budget process – but it is vital we develop and enhance this with the input of all sectors on the Island.

You mean more cuts to the poor and disabled while the council gets a pay rise just like it always does.

council workers have to pay household bills like everyone else, so they will get pay rises, otherwise the council won’t be able to recruit staff – I am not on about Council chiefs – I am on about those that do the day to day work.
The rest of us expect clean streets, lighting, police, ambulance, fire services, education and waste disposal in return for our council taxes.
There is only so much money and it cannot all be handed on a plate to those on benefits for one reason or another.
The taxpayers expect to benefit from having money forcibly taken from their salaries and yes, that does mean that those who do not contribute for one reason or another, get what the taxpayers begrudgingly give.
all those that vote my post down – I do hope that you are all digging deep in to your own pockets to support those, that you want everyone else to pay for. Put your money where your mouths are.
I would like to see someone clean my street! Not had anyone there for months, and ow we have had wight fibre monkeys in, the roads are appalling
Being dependant on a mobility scooter (Buggy) for individual transport I would plead with IWC and/or island Roads to improve pavement surfaces. My main route to Cowes Health Centre and the town is the pavement running east from the Round House down into Park Road which feels like a ploughed field. Not helped by ‘white vans’ frequently parked halfway across the footpath. I am sure there are other pavements in similar poor state

i expect they will get round to it eventually – those surfaces are not a high priority and are much further down the list.
I sent Bob Seely an email about the pavements but heard nothing yet, doubt that I will.
What is the point of us mere mortals having a say… No notice is taken of us…We might just as well speak to a brick wall…
they do listen – you just have to know who to speak with, what to say and how to say it.
What’s the point they won’t listen they will do whatever they want not what the public want.
You mean have you say but they won’t listen to you they’ll do what the hell they want to do and they’ll do what the hell they want to spend it on and all the nepotism in the Isle of Wight Council and corruption will still exist
Easy stop paying the councillors so much and get rid of at least half of them then there is more money to be spent and us poor council tax payers do not face yet another large rise
