Motorists travelling between Ryde and Newport face 5 days of disruption as a result of the closure of the main road through Havenstreet next week.
The rural route is used by hundreds, if not thousands, of motorists every day but from next Monday (30th September) the road will be closed in both directions to facilitate parapet upgrade works.
The road will be closed between the junctions of Guildford Farm and Bridleway N18 from 09:00 on 30th September until 16:00 on Friday 4th October, or when the works have been completed.
All through traffic will have to divert via The Downs or the main road through Wootton.
Next week’s closure of Havenstreet will coincide with the start of a 14-month scheme at St Mary’s Junction in Newport, which is likely to cause major disruption. This week motorists are being disrupted by works on Staplers Road, Newport.
UPDATE WEDNESDAY – Island Roads have confirmed that the Main Road will be closed for a further 5 days, between 09:00 and 16:00 each day from Monday 7th October 2019 until Friday 11th October 2019, or when the works have been completed.
The closure will be in force from the junctions of Church Road and Church Lane. The closure is required for safety during drainage works.
Where abouts is Guildford farm ? Will there be access to Northbrooke nursing home ?

What is going on? Has all common sense been removed from Island Roads.
They seem to be determined to bring the Island to a stand still.
I have just driven down Combley Road and there 26/09/19 and there is a sign there saying that the road is closed for ONE day that is 30/09/2019 not five days as stated in this story, someone got it wrong.
We have been assured that the closure will be for one day only, 30th. But they like to give themselves a ‘bit of time either side’ which doesn’t help when you’re planning deliveries or for a business!!
Probably won’t start the works until later, can I pa’s as 7.10am on the morning?
