Easy access to one of the Island’s most popular and picturesque beaches – Compton Beach – has been reinstated just in time for the Easter holidays, thanks to the installation of temporary access steps.
The Isle of Wight Council’s Rights of Way department, the National Trust and contractors Faithfull Quality Timber Work have faced a challenging job in difficult conditions, due to the land being prone to erosion.
Despite the challenges the steps leading down from Hanover Point (the main car park) are now open to the public.
The steps were closed back in February following a collapse. Planning permission has now been submitted to create an access ramp down onto the beach for machinery to remove and replace the damage outfall pipe.
