The Isle of Wight Council’s Rights of Way team has closed the temporary beach access steps at Compton Beach/Hanover Point this afternoon (Friday), due to ongoing land movement.
The temporary steps were put in ahead of long term plans for removal of the damaged outfall and repair works to be devised by Island Roads.
Beach access is still available near Compton Farm Cottages (Footpath F68) or at Brook Car Park (BS103).
The public should remain aware of the instability of the coastal slope and check tide times.
