2 new dance classes for the over 55s are launching in Northwood and Totland.
There has been much discussion and debate recently about the benefits of exercise as people get older and it has been proven that dance is particularly beneficial.
Samphire was set up 3 years ago to give Island residents 55 or over (or thereabouts) the opportunity to dance. Following on from the success of the group, Michelle Hainsworth, the director, is now expanding her work and beginning new classes in Northwood and Totland.
The classes include ballet and contemporary technique and give participants the opportunity to work together in groups and it is, therefore, a very social activity.
Michelle says:
“We have a lot of fun and everyone has become good friends. Sometimes we get involved in projects and we also go to see dance performances on the mainland.
“Dancing is great for your wellbeing. You can escape your worries and get a real buzz from it. Do come along and give the class a try”.
Free taster classes are being held tomorrow (Wednesday 2nd October) at:
• Northwood Village Hall (formerly the WI building) between 10:30-11:45
• Totland Church Hall between 14:15-15:30.
