24-YEAR-OLD DRINK DRIVER BANNED FROM THE ROADS AFTER RACECOURSE ROUNDABOUT CRASH


24-year-old Samuel Corney of Ashey Road, Ryde has been banned from driving for 20 months after crashing into Racecourse Roundabout last month.

As previously reported by Island Echo, a Citroen Saxo ended up in a damaged state in the middle of the busy roundabout near Whippingham on 30th September.

Corney appeared before the Isle of Wight Magistrates Court earlier this week and admitted driving whilst over the limit – he blew 86 microgrammes of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath, the legal limit being 35.

The 24-year-old had intended on consuming a couple of pints at a local pub, but lost track, before stepping into his car. He held his hands up at the scene of the crash and fully co-operated with Police.

Magistrates decided to hand down a 20-month driving ban and ordered Corney to pay £450 in fines. He was also ordered to pay £85 in costs with a surcharge of £41.
