An 18-year-old drink driver has been handed a driving disqualification after registering over 1 and a half times the limit.
Emily Rose Williams of Egerton Road, Bembridge, appeared before the Isle of Wight Magistrates Court following the incident on the 8th May.
The court heard that Williams had been spotted driving above the speed limit on Great Preston Road in Ryde in the early hours of the morning. Upon pulling over the silver Vauxhall Corsa, officers became aware of a strong smell of alcohol coming from the vehicle, at which point Williams was breathalysed – registering 57mg per 100ml of breath.
Magistrates were told that the defendent – who has conducted voluntary work with the NHS alongside her normal employment in a restaurant – had been to a friend’s house and had consumed a drink of straight rum, but had not thought that this would push her over the limit.
Williams, who had held her clean driving license since October of last year, admitted the offence and was disqualified from driving for 15 months and fined £120. She will also have to pay £85 in costs and a £34 surcharge.

Pathetic sentence should be banned for a minimum of 2 years and made to retake her driving test…
That’s a bit harsh, she’s banned. Time to reflect for a year if they do a course. Then expensive insurance. Corrective and punitive.
You wouldn’t say that if she ran someone over
She has only been driving for a year, everyone needs a couple of years to get used to It,and how much your body absorbs alcohol as everyone is different, give the pour girl a chance!
Having a clean licence for less than a year is nothing to boast about. Try 35.
That will bump up her insurance !!!!!
Hopefully won’t do that again ….
