UPDATED: Firefighters from Sandown have extinguished a small car fire in Alverstone this evening (Wednesday) following an apparent crash.
1 appliance from the Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service was mobilised to reports of a car fire on Alverstone Road at just before 19:00.
The front end of the abandoned silver Vauxhall Corsa – which has come to a stop at the side of the road – shows signs of collision damage.
The fire has been extinguished and the Sandown appliance has now returned to station.
Police remain in attendance at the scene on the outskirts of Sandown.
UPDATE @ 20:22 – Island Echo understands Police are treating the incident as suspicious.
The vehicle is thought to have been in situ for over a week after being dumped following a collision, but tonight caught fire in currently unclear circumstances.
