Wessex Premier Cowes Sports will be hoping to advance to the 3rd round of the FA Vase competition when they travel to the New Forest to take on Wessex Division 1 outfit New Milton Town tomorrow (Saturday).
The Yachtsmen are the only Island side left in the prestigious competition after Ascot United knocked out Newport at Smallbrook in Round 1, and East Cowes Vics fell at home to AFC Porchester.
Cowes advanced to the 2nd Round after winning away at London club Rayner’s Lane in the previous round. They are on a run of poor form, having failed to win in their previous 6 games since beating Laverstock & Ford on 4th October. They are also without captain and talisman John McKie who is currently suspended.
New Milton currently lie in 2nd place in Wessex Division 1, having lost their last fixture 0-2 against Newport.
In Wessex Division 1, 4th-placed Newport take on the side 3 places and 3 points below in the table, Andover Town, at Smallbrook.
The Port will be looking for their 9th successive league victory. Andover Town narrowly missed out on a play-off place last season, in part due to Newport’s emphatic 3-0 victory over them at home in April this year.
Also in Division 1, 3rd from bottom East Cowes Vics will be travelling to Southampton to face 14th-placed Millbrook. Draw specialists Vics have failed to win since 13th August. The corresponding fixture at Beatrice Avenue this season finished in a 2-2 draw.
In Isle of Wight Division 1, Pan will be hoping for a big crowd at Downside for the game against West Wight.
The East Newport club will be paying tribute to their much-loved manager Steve Case, who has sadly passed away, after being in charge for 40 years. 40 balloons will be released before the game to commemorate every year he managed the club.
6 Island sides will also be competing in the Hampshire Cups this weekend in games postponed from the previous Saturday.
