A busy weekend for Shanklin Sandown Rowing Club saw their crews enjoy success across 2 different events. The club had a trio of crews travel to Dorney Lake for the National Schools regatta, the country’s biggest junior rowing event. Carter Horrix and Louis Sheasby produced another dominant performance to win the boy’s J16 double sculls. The crew won the time trial by ten seconds and then in the final led from the start holding a boat length’s lead over their main challengers before extending that to 2lengths in the closing stages. Fred Giemza-Pipe secured an excellent 5th spot in the B final of the J18 single sculls, one of the toughest of all the events on offer, with 4 rounds of competition just to get to a final, recording a new PB time for 2k in the process. The girl’s J14 coxed quad of Rose Collier, Connie Batley-Smith, Ella Haydon, Layla Katirewa & Esme Walters (cox), were also experiencing this level of competition for the first time but produced an excellent performance to finish 3rd in the B final. The club also enjoyed further success at the second Hants & Dorset regatta of the season at Poole. There were wins for the girls J14 quad and the girls J14 double of Katirewa and Batley-Smith, with crew mates Izzy Bounds and Rose Collier finishing in 2nd spot. Esme Walters, competing in the Ladies Novice sculls, coped well in challenging conditions to record a superb 3rd spot on her coastal sculling debut.
