WIGHTLINK-WIGHT MOUNTAIN STAR EWAN NARROWLY MISSES OUT ON TOP SPOT IN FRIMLEY

Wightlink-Wight Mountain team members Ewan Cook, MacKenzie Cook and Alfie Haydon travelled to Highlands Farm in Frimley to compete in the first round of the Gorrick Spring Classic MTB XC Series last weekend (Sunday 18th February). Ewan and Alfie, both competing for the first time in the Sport category, were looking to take another podium following their recent successes in the Brass Monkey Winter Series. Ewan got off to a fantastic start with 2 other riders; the trio quickly became a duo and a cat-and-mouse battle for first place was on. Ewan rode a brilliant race and just missed out on the win by 1 second in the sprint to the line. Alfie, who has been on great form, unfortunately, got caught up in a crash at the start which led to him missing the break. He worked hard to push up to the front leaders, but this was hampered by a group who couldn’t pass a slower rider ahead of him and Alfie had to settle for 6th on the day. MacKenzie, who is gaining experience and getting stronger with every race, came home 5th in the Juvenile category. A great day of racing for the team and they are all looking forward to competing in the next round on the 3rd March.
