Wightlink is acting to help Isle of Wight commuters and other foot passengers who cross the Solent and then catch trains to their final destinations this week.
The Rail Maritime and Transport Union (RMT) has announced its intention to strike for 2 days this week on Wednesday 8th and Thursday 9th November. The action will affect Island Line, South Western Railway and Southern Railway services.
During this week’s industrial action, Wightlink customers who wish to take their cars or motorbikes to the mainland will be offered a discount of 10% on day return fares. Customers can just turn up at Wightlink’s Fishbourne and Yarmouth ticket offices and quote ‘Rail Strike Assistance’ to secure the discount. The usual booking fees for customers who book in person, using this discount, will also be waived on this occasion.
For foot passengers still travelling between Ryde Pier Head and Portsmouth Harbour on the FastCat, Wightlink are offering a courtesy bus service up and down Ryde pier.
