Ryde-based go karting track, WightKarting, is celebrating it’s 5th birthday today (Thursday).
Over 60,000 people have taken to the 520 metre floodlit circuit at Westridge over the past 5 years, which has helped to create 30 jobs.
Over £2million has been invested into the track and the local economy. Major improvements every year have included purchasing new karts for wider age ranges to enjoy, creating a covered Pits area, balcony spectator areas, a Licensed Bar and a new canopy area to improve their track experience for racers.
Cathy Foulkes, Owner of WightKarting, has said:
“We are very pleased to have reached our 5th birthday safely and profitably in challenging economic times. Andy and I especially delight in the joy we see on the faces of our guests (and staff) delivering fun-filled thrills.
“Another highlight for us is being THE favourite destination for visiting grandchildren which has popularised us with local Grandparents and put a sporting element to those cross generational visits!
“Its amazing to see how far we’ve come since our opening weekend at Easter 2014, we’ve managed to see over 60,000 people come and race with us, and we’re extremely excited to be celebrating this occasion with some of our members and our dedicated staff members. Our staff are a joy to be with and we cant wait for the next 5 years!”
