Wight Eagles U15s beat Petersfield Juniors in a hard-fought game at Brighstone on Saturday (15th October).
The Eagles struggled to come out in the 1st 10 minutes and found themselves a goal down early on. As the half began to progress, the Island side started to find their form when the equaliser came from Sophie Lewis to make it 1-1. The girls then pushed for a second to take the lead with a quick-fire double from Ocean Clark (3-1) and to get assists from Dani Robinson. Petersfield had a few more chances towards the end of the half but couldn’t beat in-form keeper Lizzie Dodds.

Again, the Island side came out of the blocks slowly, allowing Petersfield to nick an early goal (3-2). That was all the motivation the young Eagles needed to start playing and passing the ball forward.
Shortly after a good spell of play, the Islanders were back on form when Dani Robinson slotted a ball inch perfect to Tanisha Cooke to slot home to make it 4-2 and give a little bit of breathing space for the girls. Soon, Dani was to be rewarded herself after creating 3 of the goals. She ran with the ball from inside her own half, beating 4 players and finished it cooly to complete a great afternoon for the Eagles.

After the game, manager Dan Verstraeten said:
“Petersfield gave us a very hard-fought game today and the score line doesn’t reflect that for them, but we kept on trying to play in the gaps and spaces which paid off in the end. We were technically better on the day.”
