UPDATE: The Wessex Division 1 fixture between East Cowes Vics and Fawley at Beatrice Avenue has been postponed due to a waterlogged pitch
The Wessex Premier fixture between Blackfield & Langley and Cowes Sports at Gang Warily is still on.
Further postponements have been marked in the fixture list.
Information correct as at 11:30, Saturday 5th November.
East Cowes Vics face Fawley in a must-win game at Beatrice Avenue in the only Wessex League fixture to be played on the Island this Saturday (5th November).
Vics are currently 3rd-from-bottom in Division 1; the Oilers are 1 place above them in the table. Victory for Vics by a margin of 2 goals or more would see the 2 sides swap places.
The East Cowes side have been without a league victory since 13th August when they beat bottom side Fleet Spurs 0-2 in North Hampshire. They have yet to win a single home game but have drawn 5 times at Beatrice Avenue.
Manager Richie Woodburn says:
“This is a massively important game for us. They sit just above us in the table, so we need to take something from this game to avoid that gap widening.
“Sam Cant is available again after injury and has been working hard behind the scenes to regain his match fitness – same with Harrison Yates who returns from suspension. Jared Cousins scored on his return from injury for the reserves last week. Aiden White is our only major injury concern currently.
“The lads have worked hard in awful conditions this week in preparation for this vital game. Hopefully, the game will not fall foul of the weather as we are very eager to play!”
Newport were also due to play a Wessex Division 1 fixture away to Millbrook, but the match has been postponed due to a waterlogged pitch. The Port next travel to New Milton Town on Tuesday evening (8th November).
In the Wessex Premier, 16th-placed Cowes Sports travel across the Solent to face the side 3 spots below them in the table: Blackfield & Langley.
The home side had been winless until last Saturday when they returned victorious from Pagham with a 1-4 victory.
The Yachtsmen are currently on a 5-game winless run which began on 8th October with an 8-0 defeat at Horndean. However, last Saturday saw the Island side snatch a point at Westwood Park with a last-minute goal and should travel to Gang Warily confident of doing at least as well this Saturday.
15 Isle of Wight clubs are involved in the 2nd round of the Hampshire Cup competitions.
Last season’s Hampshire Trophy runners-up Shanklin face the Development side of Wessex Division 1 outfit Folland Sports. 2021 Trophy winners Brading Town play Hampshire Premier League Stockbridge.
There are 2 all-Island ties in the Hampshire Vase: Ventnor and Niton Community face off in a South Wight Derby at Watcombe Bottom; High Park travel to Camp Road, Freshwater, to face West Wight.
Isle of Wight Division 1 sides are eligible to play in the Hampshire Trophy; Division 2 and reserve sides play in the Vase.
