Ventnor’s Boxing Day swim will be going ahead as usual this year, with new organisers stepping in to make sure the traditional event remains a part of Christmas in the town.
Each year hundreds of people run into the sea in aid of charity, with thousands more watching on from the Esplanade. However, earlier this week People’s Approach To Cancer Help (PATCH) announced they wouldn’t be organising this year’s event on its 37th year.
Not wanting to see such a popular event dwindle, Maria Sexton has taken responsibility for organising the 2017 edition of the swim, with assistance from The Millbay.
Money will still be raised for PATCH through collection buckets on the day and in the lead up to Boxing Day.
HM Coastguard officers from Ventnor will be in attendance for everyone’s safety.
Maria has today (Wednesday) said:
“Let’s enjoy this event and we hope to see you all out as we usually do each year!
“Please share and spread the word! VENTNOR BOXING DAY SWIM will go ahead as usual!”
