3 people arrested following a significant Armed Police response to reports of a man with a machete in Ryde have now been released under investigation.
Hampshire & Isle of Wight Constabulary has confirmed that a 22-year-old man from Ventnor, a 22-year-old man from Ryde and a 51-year-old woman from Ryde have all been released from custody while enquiries continue.
As previously reported by Island Echo, Police were called shortly before 22:00 on Sunday following a report that a man had been seen with a machete on Spencer Road.
The man was then seen getting into a vehicle with another man before leaving the area, prompting a search to locate those involved.
Armed officers were deployed, including Authorised Firearms Officers brought across the Solent to Ryde Pier by a Ministry of Defence Police boat. Police subsequently located the vehicle and arrested 2 men nearby.
The 22-year-old man from Ventnor was arrested on suspicion of possession of an offensive weapon in a public place and being concerned in the supply of Class B drugs.
The 22-year-old man from Ryde was arrested on suspicion of using threatening, abusive or insulting words or behaviour with intent to cause fear of or provoke unlawful violence, possession of a knife or sharp pointed article in a public place and being concerned in the supply of a Class B drug.
As part of enquiries, officers also searched a property on Westfield Park, off Spencer Road, where more than 10 Police vehicles were in attendance.
A 51-year-old woman from Ryde was arrested on suspicion of acquiring, using or possessing criminal property and being concerned in the supply of Class B drugs.
Investigations into the incident continue.
