The Isle of Wight’s Trading Standards Team is issuing warnings to residents regarding a new loft insulation scam that is circulating across the Island.
The team has received many reports of the scam from Islanders, which sees a call received by residents from a Bournemouth number with the caller offering a free survey to find out if your loft insulation is causing damp issues.
If you agree to the survey they will book somebody in to come and have a look and we can almost guarantee that they will find problems and then proceed to do the work for you at an inflated price.
The Footprint Trust has advised Trading Standards that in most cases fibreglass loft insulation does not cause damp issues and if it does it can easily be remedied by pulling it back from where it touches the roof which increases airflow.
You can do this yourself and if you are unable to a handyman should be able to do this for a reasonable price. Do not engage with these callers and don’t let them into your property.
You can report scams online at www.actionfraud.police.uk or on the phone – 0300 123 2040. Phishing emails can be forwarded to [email protected]. Scam texts can be forwarded to 7726.
If you have a vulnerable relative, friend or neighbour you should share this information with them – it could save them from falling victim to one of these, or any other scam.
