Despite its apparent popularity and prominent location, the last pint was pulled at The King Lud in Ryde last night (Sunday).
Landlady Suzy Read has made the decision to close the Esplanade-based pub due to the spiralling costs of running such an establishment, with an emphasis on the price she has to pay for beer from the brewery.
Staff were informed of the decision last night following a successful Beers and Buses Weekend – one of the many events held at the Lud over the past few years.
The future of the pub remains uncertain following Suzy’s 9 year tenure. It is understood the pub will be passed back into the hands of owners Enterprise Inns – but will the doors ever re-open?
