THOUSANDS of people lined the streets of Ryde this afternoon to celebrate the Cool Britannia parade, part of the Island’s Diamond Jubilee celebrations.
A vast number of schools, organisations and individuals put on a show to remember in the glorious sunshine, dressing up in jubilee-themed costumes as well as sporting some classic cars of the Queen’s reign.
The parade is just the start of the weekend’s celebrations across the Island, with a Big Lunch planned at Appley Park tomorrow, as well as a number of street parties. Monday sees a Hovercraft and Inshore Rescue Display at 13:00, with the Beacon lighting and fireworks at 22:00, all based at Ryde’s Appley Beach.
Live music, games, food and drink and all things British bring the weekend together at the Council-backed jubilee event, running from today until 23:00 on Monday (4th).
