UPDATED: Temporary steps are to be installed at Compton Bay this week to once again allow public access to the popular beach from the car park.
The Isle of Wight Council are working to install a temporary set of steps at Hanover Point in time for the Bank Holiday Weekend, at the cost of around £2300. It comes after the permanent access was severed when land slipped away back in January.
The Council are working with Island Roads on plans for the longer term solution to the situation, including the removal of the damaged outfall. Barriers have been erected around the damaged structure.
UPDATE THURSDAY: The temporary access steps have been installed and are now open to the public.
Access to the beach has been restored from the car park.
