SUCCESSFUL DAY ON THE MEDINA FOR NEWPORT ROWING CLUB

The 2nd of the 2024 IOW Rowing Forum time trials was hosted by Newport Rowing Club last weekend (Sunday 24th March). A bright day, with a gusty wind gave scullers a challenge, but all crews coped well with the conditions. In Division 1, over the longer 3.4km course, Newport gave their 8 its annual outing, with a men’s crew of both Junior and Novice rowers. They finished second in a time of 15.28. The fastest time in the division went to a Shanklin Sandown double in an excellent time of 14.30. Newport Women’s Masters crew rowed well with a corrected time of 17.41, almost 2 minutes ahead of their direct competition, and were the fastest women’s coastal crew in the division. In the shorter 1.7km division 2 Newport had 3 coastal fours entered, at men’s Novice, Junior and women’s Masters. The Junior crew rowed well in a time of 7.26 being the fastest coastal boat. The women’s Masters crew rowed well, with a corrected time close to the men’s Novice crew who finished in 8.30.
