St George’s Way in Newport has now re-opened to traffic to both directions, bringing an end to the one-way system on Medina Avenue and surrounding roads.
The main road in and out of Newport has been under a northbound closure since November last year, but following the partial completion of resurfacing works this morning (Sunday) the road has now fully re-opened.
The redesigned carriageway, which includes a new roundabout, is part of the continuing ASDA supermarket development. The roundabout will allow access to the store, as well as access to a new spine road leading to Bluebell Meadows and Pan Lane.
The one-way system on Medina Avenue and St George’s Approach has been revoked.
Resurfacing of St George’s Way will continue on Monday night into Tuesday, with work then moving along Blackwater Road.
ASDA is due to open in August.
