Firefighters from Ryde have used buckets of sea water to extinguish a small tree fire on the beach at Fishbourne this morning (Wednesday).
1 appliance was mobilised to the seaside location between Wootton Creek and Binstead at around 09:45.
The single crew quickly extinguished the fire, which is thought to have been caused by a leftover BBQ.
The Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service is reminding Islanders to act responsibly and ensure that any BBQs are fully extinguished before leaving the area.

All furlough cash should now end, extra benefits must be axed, as people have been spending less as pubs, clubs, childrens attractions are all closed, so they are blowing the extra cash on bar b ques and parties causing social issues for our hard working fire services and police as they have too much cash, too much time, and not enough sense.
Absolutely ridiculous statement!! I am self isolating to look after my shielding mum, I am on furlough and also home schooling my children and will not be sending them back to school anytime soon. I’m looking after my family and myself and haven’t mingled with ANYONE or gone anywhere near people as yet no matter what the government suggests! I think you need to edit your statement as I feel it’s the minority that ruin it for us that are doing what we should to keep everyone safe!
Whoever did this has been trying to set it on fire for a week or so, was sat on that yesterday morning and I could see where they were trying to set it on fire – WELL DONE, very grown up!!!
