SIMON GAINS SILVER IN ISLE OF WIGHT FELL RUNNING EVENT


In preparation for the upcoming Duathlon season and wanting to try something a bit different, the Isle of Wight’s Simon Jones entered the South of England Fell Running Championships on Saturday (14th September).

The local event, which is now in its 25th year, was Simon’s first venture into this sport.

The format was 3 races over 2 days. Race 1 on Saturday morning was the St. Boniface Fell, a total length of 3.8km with 235m ascent. Simon was first Male Veteran 60 in a time of 22 minutes 20 seconds.

Race 2 on Saturday afternoon was the Ventnor Horseshoe, ran over 12km with 443m of ascent. Simon was second MV60 in a time of 69 minutes 51 seconds.

Sunday posed the greatest challenge, The Wroxall Round, held over 21km with 487m ascent. This was a tough race and in very warm conditions with Simon coming 5th in MV60, but retaining 2nd place and a silver medal in MV60 overall.
