SHANKLIN ROWERS TAKE PART IN INDOOR CHAMPIONSHIPS FOR THE FIRST TIME IN 20 YEARS

Members of Shanklin Sandown Rowing Club took part in the British Indoor Rowing Championships for the first time in 20 years on Saturday (8th December).

The event, held at the Velodrome in London’s Olympic Park, saw the Shanklin athletes deliver a silver medal winning performance and some personal best times. This finished off another successful year for the club both on and off the water.

Kayleigh Batchelor took the runners up spot in the Year 8 girls race with a distance of 810 metres, whilst in the Year 10 boys event a PB for Riley Horrix saw him secure 6th position. Team mates Ethan Walters finished 16th and Owen Denness, competing indoor for the first time, finishing inside the top 50.

Sophie Atkin produced a gutsy performance to take 7 seconds off her previous best and Yasmin Wright also secured a new PB in the Year 11 girl’s event. Andrew Tapsell finished his debut rowing season also recording a new best time for 2,000 on his competitive debut indoors.
